1953 Edgar P. Beebe's former home burns
Fire Destroys Beebe Farm House, Knox Road, Sunday The old Beebe farmhouse, on the Altamont-Knox road, was almost entirely destroyed by fire which swept the upper part of the structure Sunday afternoon. The property is now owned by Clyde Musser. Cause of the fire was said to have been a flaming rag, part of a torch used to burn worms out of a tree, the burning rag in some unaccountable manner being blown under the west side of the building. A strong wind was prevalent at the time. Firemen from Knox, Berne, and Altamont responded to the alarm. With water drawn from the upper Altamont reservoir the flames were finally extinguished, but not before the building was a shambles, both from the fire and water. The farmhouse was the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Beebe for many years. It is located opposite Wolfe's Tavern, formerly Lahndorff's. Altamont Enterprise May 29, 1953
