Allan Deitz was born in Albany on November 24, 1940, the son of Rev. Franklin S. Deitz and Gertrude M. Ball (daughter of Clyde L. Ball and Alta M. Sholtes) of Berne. His siblings were:

David (Holly) Clark of Berne.
  • Gerald (Janice) Deitz of Clifton Park

Education

Allan F. Deitz graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1958 and attended Hope College from 1958 to 1962.

Occupation

Allan Franklin Deitz's many interests included Amateur (Ham) Radio, researching and documenting local history as well as family history in the Schoharie Valley of New York, exploring and educating others about Dutch barns, and canoeing, fishing, and hiking in the Adirondacks. Starting life as a "preacher's kid," he was a faithful and active member of Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church for 42 years.

Marriage & Children

Allan Deitz married Betty in Waupun, Wis. on August 24, 1962, and celebrated 50 years of marriage last year at their favorite vacation spot, Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y. Their children were:

  • Karen (David) Diligent of Delmar

GUIDERLAND Allan Franklin Deitz, 72, entered into eternal peace at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.

An avid reader, researcher and outdoorsman, Allan's positive attitude, steadfast curiosity and calm presence will be missed by all who knew him. Allan was born in Albany on November 24, 1940. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1958 and attended Hope College from 1958 to 1962, where he met his future bride, Betty. They were married in Waupun, Wis. on August 24, 1962, and celebrated 50 years of marriage last year at their favorite vacation spot, Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y. Allan's many interests included Amateur (Ham) Radio, researching and documenting local history as well as family history in the Schoharie Valley of New York, exploring and educating others about Dutch barns, and canoeing, fishing, and hiking in the Adirondacks. Starting life as a "preacher's kid," he was a faithful and active member of Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church for 42 years.

Allan is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Gertrude Deitz of Berne. Allan is lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty; daughters, Jennifer (Michael) Battaglioli of Overland Park, Kan. and Karen (David) Diligent of Delmar; sister, Arlene (Jim) Clark of Essex, Vt.; brother, Gerald (Janice) Deitz of Clifton Park; grandchildren, Isabel, Jack, Jacob, and Evan; and nephew, David (Holly) Clark of Berne.

Visiting hours will be held at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY, 12084 on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. (directions can be found at hamiltonunionpresbyterianchurch.org. A reception will take place at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church Mission Trip Fund.
