Birth
George A. Brate was born in about 1844 to Henry Brate (B. Sept 20, 1803, D. June 11, 1887) and Eliza M. Smith (B. abt 1807, D. after 1880).[1] He was the youngest son of ten children and a brother to Delinton Brate who also served in the Civil War.

George married between 1870 and 1875 and was widowed in 1875. His wife, whose name is unknown, gave birth to a daughter Minnie E. Brate in about 1875.[1]

George's wife Angelica died first on November 3, 1898.[1] George A. Brate lived for many more years dying in 1933 in Coeymans, Albany County, NY.[1] George died on March 13, 1933 at Coeymans Hollow, NY.[4]
