Fred attended the common schools and the Albany public schools.<ref name="Landmarks"/>

==Occupation==
He delivered bread for his father until he was twenty-one years of age, when he engaged in the cigar business as a jobber, doing his own selling. In 1884 he returned to Clarksville, where he has ever since been engaged in the bakery business. He has also been interested in various enterprises, and officiated as town clerk in 1886.<ref name="Landmarks"/>
