Zadok B. West was born in June 1839 in Fulton, Schoharie County, NY.<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> His given name, which is from the Hebrew bible, was also recorded as Zadock and Zaddock, and he was called Zade.<ref name="AlbRural">Hess, Peter J., "The Civil War and the Albany Rural Cemetery", Mount Ida Press 2005, page 160.</ref> He was the son of [[Peter W. West]] (B. Mar 13, 1802, D. Aug 23, 1877) and [[Elizabeth Felter]] (B. bet Aug 14, 1805-1807, D. Oct 30, 1903).<ref name="Bernehistory"/>

After March 22, 1887, Zadok married [[Sarah Augusta Dietz]], who was born July 8, 1836.<ref name="Bernehistory"/> She was the daughter of [[Joseph P. Dietz]] and [[Cornelia Bogardus]], and was the widow of [[John Henry Fancher]] (B. Feb 1, 1839, D. Dec 12, 1871).<ref name="Bernehistory"/> She came into the marriage with two children:

|Additional Remarks: Enlisted at the age of 23 on September 20, 1862. ==Life==
After being born in Fulton, Schoharie Co, NY, by 1880 Zadok had moved to Berne, Albany Co where he was working as a miller and living with his brother [[Abram A. West]], who was also a miller, and his wife Minnie.<ref name="1880Census"/> In 1890 Zadok was living in South Berne.<ref name="1890Census">1890 US Veterans Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref>

Zadok was active in the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), which was an organization of Civil War veterans. In 1890, he was elected an officer of Post 645 of Berne as the Serg't Major and he began his term in early 1891.<ref>Berne column, The Enterprise, Altamont, NY Jan 10, 1891</ref><ref>Berne column, The Enterprise, Altamont, NY Feb 14, 1891</ref>

Zadok was a farmer who farmed his own property in Berne.

Zadok's wife Sarah Augusta died first in February of 1906.<ref name="Bernehistory"/><ref name="death">"South Berne", [[Altamont Enterprise]] March 2, 1906 page 1.</ref> After her death, Zadok lived with his step daughter [[Cora M. Fancher]], who had married [[Emmet J. Carl]] a farmer.<ref name="1910Census">1910 US Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref>

In about 1915, Zade was spending his winters in Albany.<ref name="Slingerlands">The Slingerlands Bulletin 1914-1916 no date given.</ref>

==Religion==
In 1911, Zade was on the advisory committee for the People's Church of South Berne.<ref name="Church">[[Altamont Enterprise]] Nov 3, 1911.</ref>

==Death==
