==Birth==
John Otho Taylor was born September 1, 1838.<ref name="Stalker">gravestone records from Stalker Burial Grounds, Berne, NY at bernehistory.org</ref> His parents are unknown.<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> His birthplace was recorded in the 1865 NY State Census as Germany.<ref name="1865Census">1865 NY State Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref>

==Marriage & Children== 
John married in 1861 [[Sarah M. Thompson]] (B. abt 1835, D. unk), who was the daughter of [[Benjamin Thompson]] (B. 1801, D. after 1865) and [[Hannah Wagoner]] (B. 1800, D. unk).<ref name="Bernehistory"/> They apparently did not have any children.<ref name="1865Census"/> Interestingly Sarah's older brother [[Simon Thompson]] and younger sister [[Caroline Thompson]] married siblings with the surname of Vincent.<ref name="Bernehistory"/> When the Vincent's mother died, their father [[William Vincent]] married a widow [[Susan Shepard]] Taylor. This family of Taylors were native born so there is no known connection.

==Life==
John can not be found in the 1860 US Census, however his wife Sarah was working as a servant for a young family in Berne several houses away from her parents and older brother [[Simon Thompson]].<ref name="1860Census">1860 US Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref> At some point after this John and Sarah married.

In the 1865 NY State census, John's wife Sarah was recorded as a widow and was living with her parents and older brother. John was recorded twice; once with the soldiers and also with his wife and her family. The latter recorded that he was born in Germany and had been naturalized.

John's wife Sarah whereabouts after the 1865 NY State Census are unknown.

==Death==
John died in the hospital at Baltimore, Maryland where his remains were embalmed and sent home.<ref name="Heroes of Albany">Clark, Rufus Wheelwright, "Heroes of Albany; A memorial of the Patriot-martyrs of the City and County", 1867</ref> He was buried at the [[Stalker Burial Grounds]] in Berne.<ref name="Stalker">gravestone records from Stalker Burial Grounds, Berne, NY at bernehistory.org</ref> Also at this cemetery was buried his wife's sister Ann Elizabeth Thompson.
