Served as a Sergeant E5 in the Regular Army, 1st Infantry Division for four years. Charles' Vietnam tour began on July 19, 1966. &amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;The Wall&amp;quot;/&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
==Death==&lt;br /&gt;
Charles was killed by small arms fire in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam on March 31, 1967. &amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;The Wall&amp;quot;/&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Berne by Alberta Wright. Word has been received here of the November 10 death of Rose Hazel Drezelo Summer Pletcher in the Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte, North Carolina. Graveside service was held at the National Cemetery of Salisbury, North Carolina with the Rev. George Gilbert of the Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Born December 10, 1921 near Buffalo, Rosie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Drezelo who later moved their family to this area. She grew up on the family farm on Switzkill Road ad attended Berne-Knox High School. She later earned her degree in Early Childhood Education at the State College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the widow of Frank G. H. Summer and of Richard Pletcher and the mother of Franklin G. H. Summer, who is in a veterans hospital in Greenfield, Massachusetts following a head injury in Army service. Her younger son Charles G. H. Summers, was killed in Vietnam. Rosie was the sister of Stanley Drezelo of Schenectady; Joseph Drezelo of Berne; Paul Drezelo of Pleasant Valley; Amelia Marlowe of Altamont and the late Gertrude Best and Jimmy Drezelo, who died recently in Florida. &lt;br /&gt;
