Address East Berne Albany Co N.Y."<ref name="Town and City Registers"/> At the age of 18, he enlisted as a Private in Company H, 25th Infantry Regiment New York on 29 Nov 1862. He transferred out of Company H, 25th Infantry Regiment New York on 1 Jul 1863 and into Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps. He was discharged from Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps on 18 Jul 1863. Note: Philip's older brother [[William H. Stalker]] had enlisted several months earlier in Co I of the 61st NY Infantry. He died of disease in May of 1864.

==Life==
Philip was probably born in Berne where his family was recorded in the 1850 US Census.<ref name="1850Census">1850 US Census, Berne, Albany Co, NY</ref> By 1860, they had moved to Knox where Philip at 13 years of age was no longer in school and probably already working.<ref name="1860Census">1860 US Census, Knox, Albany Co, NY</ref>

In the 1890, Philip and his family were living in New Scotland, Albany County, NY, where Philip was recorded in the Veterans Census as having a disability.<ref name="1890Census">1890 US Veterans Census, New Scotland, Albany Co, NY</ref> This agrees with his Civil War Pension information as it confirms he first applied for his invalid pension on June 25, 1886.<ref name="Pension">Civil War Pension Index, Ancestry.com</ref>

In 1900 Philip was renting a farm in Bethlehem, Albany County, where he farmed. He and his wife were living with their youngest daughters Grace and Addie as well as their eldest daughter and her family and their widowed daughter in law Jannie Stalker and her young son Welton G. Stalker.<ref name="1900Census"/>

In 1910 Philip owned his own farm on Fuller Road in Guilderland.<ref name="1910Census"/> He and his wife were both working; he as a farmer and she taking odd jobs as a servant.<ref name="1910Census"/> His youngest daughter, Addie, was living with them and working as a laundress.<ref name="1910Census"/> They were rising their grandson Welton.<ref name="1910Census"/>

By 1920 Philip and Esther had moved into the city of Albany.<ref name="1920Census"/> Philip now 74 years of age was the caretaker for a summer camp.<ref name="1920Census"/> Living with Philip and Esther was their grandson Welton, who was working as a farmer and was now married.<ref name="1920Census"/>

Philip and Esther lived long lives, as in 1930 both in their 80s they were still living in Albany. Their eldest son William, who was married with children<ref>Bruce Ackerman at Ancestry.com</ref> and working as a farm laborer, was recorded as living with them although his family was not.<ref name="1930Census"/>

Philip died in Albany on July 10, 1934 at about 87 years of age.<ref name="Pension"/>
