Munsell & Co., 1886, page 817</ref> on August 13, 1835<ref name="Muster Roll Abstracts"> NY Civil War Muster Roll Abstracts, Ancestry.com Military databases</ref> about 1845, son of Peter Simons and his first wife Catharine Fitzgerald (1817 - after June 1850).<ref name="BHP">[[Berne Historical Project]]</ref> The 1840 census shows Peter Simons in Albany. The 1850 census for the City of Albany, Ward 8 clearly shows George's mother's name as Catherine and his age as 5, so he may have been born in Albany, not Berne.<ref name="1850 Census">1850 Federal Census</ref> Peter Simons married next Margaret Wilson.<ref name="BHP">[[Berne Historical Project]]</ref>
