Delos was born in 1879 in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schoharie_County,_New_York Schoharie County, NY] to Harvey Bates and Luella Carpenter. He married [[Anna Laurie Freleigh]], daughter of [[William Freleigh]] and [[Sarah Anna Carr]] about 1901. Delos was a farmer, and he and Anna raised their family of ten in [[Dormansville]].

==Obituary==
Delos Bates - Funeral services for Delos Bates, 67, of Dormansville, state highway employee, who died Saturday in St. Peter's hospital will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Hannacroix cemetery. A native of Schoharie county and widely know in the Dormansville section, Mr. Bates is survived by his wife: his father, Harvey Bates, Stamford; seven sons, Charles, William, Albert, George, Frederick, Alfred and Clarence Bates; two daughters, Miss Edna Bates and Mrs. Harley Hallenbeck; three brothers, Geroge, David and Claude Bates and two sisters, Mrs. William Hilleker and Mrs. Margaret Ingraham.
