Andrew Barkman was born 1835 according to his tombstone.<ref name="Tombstone">Tombstone, Westerlo Rural Cemetery</ref> to Garret Barkman (B. Aug 13, 1803, D. Jan 27, 1884) and his wife Eliza Lee (B. Nov 23, 1806, D. Mar 27, 1872).<ref name="Ancestry">www.ancestry.com</ref><ref name="1850Census">1850 US Census, Rensselaerville, Albany Co, NY</ref> He was a middle child in a large family.<ref name="Ancestry"/> He was baptized October 11, 1839 at the old Rensselaerville Baptist Church<ref>FamilySearch</ref>

==Marriage & Children== 
After serving in the Civil War, Andrew married a woman named Hannah in May of 1870. Hannah apparently died just after the 1880 Census and then Andrew remarried Mary Fisher<ref name="Tombstone"/>, who was many years his junior, having been born in February 1855.<ref name="1900Census">1900 US Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref> Andrew and Mary had the following children:

After the Civil War, Andrew returned home where he married a woman named Hannah in May of 1870.<ref name="1870Census">1870 US Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref> At the time, they were living next to Andrew's brother and parents in Westerlo. Andrew was working as a farmer. A decade later Andrew, who was still living in Westerlo, was recorded as a basketmaker.<ref name="1880Census">1880 US Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref> Apparently shortly after that census, Andrew's wife Hannah died and he remarried in about 1882 to a woman named Mary Fisher.<ref name="1900Census"/> He and Mary subsequently had a large family. In 1890 US Veterans Census recorded Andrew in Westerlo.<ref name="1890Census">1890 US Veterans Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref> In 1900 Andrew and his family were still living in Westerlo and he was working as a day laborer and living in a rented house.<ref name="1900Census"/>

==Death==
Andrew died 1907<ref name="Tombstone"/>. In the 1910 US Census his widowed wife and several children can be found living in Westerlo.<ref name="1910Census">1910 US Census, Westerlo, Albany Co, NY</ref>. Mary Fisher Barkman died 1924<ref name="Tombstone"/>. They are buried in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.<ref name="Tombstone"/>
