==Birth==

Madison M.<ref name="Howell">Howell, George Rogers, [[History of the County of Albany]], NY from 1609-1886, W. W. Munsell & Co., 1886, page 817</ref> Ball was born on July 12, 1841 to [[John W. Ball]] (B. Mar 20, 1801, D. June 5, 1873) and [[Maria Sternburg]] (B. Sept 3, 1807, D. Nov 22, 1871).<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref> He was the middle child of seven and the only boy.<ref name="Bernehistory"/>

==Marriage & Children== 

In about 1872, he married [[Hester Secor Shafer]], who was born in October of 1849 to [[Francis F. Shafer]] and [[Rebecca Van Zandt Secor]].<ref name="Bernehistory"/>
