Deitz was born in Berne and was a graduate of Schoharie High School, Hope College and New Brunswick Theological Seminary. He served churches in Prattsville, the 2nd Reformed Church in Rotterdam and the Lawyersville and Sharon Reformed Churches. He retired to Berne in 1975. Rev. Deitz was chaplain of the Hilltown Senior Citizens, a member of the 1st Reformed Church of Berne, the Berne Historical Society and the Schoharie Classis of the Reformed Church of America. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Ball Deitz; two sons, Allan F. Deitz of Guilderland and Gerald R. Deitz of Clifton Park; one daughter, Arlene D. Clark of Essex Junction, VT; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Battaglioli of Manhatten, David L. Clark of Berne, and Karen B. Deitz of Guilderland. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold F. Deitz and Walter Deitz. Services will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church of Berne. Diligent of Delmar; her great-grand-daughter, Isabel Grace Battag-lioli ; three great-grandsons, Jack Allan Diligent, Evan Nicholas Diligent and Jacob Battaglioli; a sister, Alberta B. Wright of Berne and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Berne. Calling hours will be prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the church. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery. With her older sister, [[Alberta Ball]], Gertrude and family were then living in the Wood house in Berne village. In 1920, the family moved over to the Ball farm on Switzkill Road where she grew up.<br />

After Franklin retired from the parish ministry in 1975, Gertrude and Franklin returned to Berne and lived on the Ball farm for over 23 years. Gertrude was a member of the First Reformed Church in Berne, the [[Hilltowns Senior Citizens]], and the Berne Historical Society. <br />

*Allan Franklin Deitz who was born on November 24, 1940 at Albany, NY. He married Betty Ann Hesselink at Waupun, Wis. on 24 Aug. 1962. He graduated from Hope College, Holland, Mich. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Karen.<br />
*Arlene Gertrude Deitz who was born on October 3, 1943 at Albany, NY. She married Rev. James Clark on 16 Jul 1966. She graduated from Hope College, Holland, Mich. They have a son, David.<br />
