Marcus was born in Berne on January 20, 1832, a son of Allen Cooper and Sarah Ann Gifford<ref name="Berne History">Berne NY Family files, www.bernehistory.org </ref>.

==Marriage & Children== 
He married Ruth Wood at about 1851<ref name="Berne History">Berne NY Family files, www.bernehistory.org </ref>. They moved to Rensselaerville and also lived for a time in Delaware County, and later in Oneida County.  They had the following children:
