==Birth==
James was born on February 16, 1750  in Greene County, NY, a son of Johannes and Anna Maria Oberbach Deitz<ref name="Bernehistory">Bernehistory.org</ref>.  His siblings were:
*Peter Deitz  b. August 26, 1743
*Elizabeth Deitz  b. 1745 married George Ball
*William Deitz b. November 8, 1747
*John Michael Deitz  b. March 10, 1754

==Military==
Jacobus served in the Colonel Peter Vrooman Regiment of Schoharie.  His name appears on the list of bounties paid to the officers of Vrooman’s Regiment for March 21, 1782 that were paid in November of 1782.  He apparently served 8 months in the war.
==Marriage and Children==
On April 3, 1781 he married Anna Elisabeth Ecker at the Schoharie Lutheran Church,Schoharie.  She was born on September 1, 1760, a daughter of Peter and Elisabeth Rickert Ecker<ref name="Bernehistory"/>.  They had the following known children:

*Jacob Deitz
*Adam D. Deitz
*James Deitz
*William Deitz
*Peter Jacob Deitz  

==Death==
James died on February 13, 1825 at Otsego County, NY and was buried at the Colliersville-Cooperstown Junction Cemetery. <ref name="Cemetery Listing">Records of burials at the Colliersville Cemetery</ref>    His wife died on August 29, 1826 at Berne, Albany County<ref name="Bernehistory"/>
