Switzkill Valley, Berne (Beaverdam),<br>
*<1740 William Dietz (1720-1782) settled in Switzkill Valley near his brothers John Hendrick and Adam.
~1771 when William moved to Schoharie, his Switzkill land was farmed by his son, Adam. *1782, a muster roll, section no. 3; ... *1787 survey map by Wm Cockburn shows an irregular shaped Lot 519, Adam Deitz, 154 acres, located on the east bank of the Switz Kil Creek, with house and barn. North of this lot is lot 539, Adam Deitz (Adam Deitz, b. 1755 son of Willliam), 239 acres, with two houses and barn near Switzkill Road at the northern lot boundry. On the west bank of the Switz Kil, Lot 518, Conrad Swart.
*1847, Robert Ball moved to the John B. Deitz farm on lot 539, according to a Clyde L. Ball note in the William Ball family bible. A Walter Church ledger at the Berne Historical Society contains a page showing rent owed by Robert Ball to the former Van Rensselaer Patroon System's West Manor for the year 1854. Robert Ball's wife was Anna Barbara Deitz, great-granddaughter of John Hendrick Dietz who probably homesteaded what became the Ball farm.
*1854 A Walter Church ledger at the Berne Historical Society contains a page showing rent owed by Robert Ball to the former Van Rensselaer Patroon System's West Manor. Robert Ball's wife was Anna Barbara Deitz, daughter of John Billinger Dietz who bought in 1812, from Adam Dietz, the farm that later became the 96 acre Ball farm on the south section of the Adam Dietz s/o William Lot 539. John B. Dietz was the grandson of Johan Hendrick Dietz, homesteader of Lot 519, and had grown up on that farm adjoining #539.
